NHS number now required to book blood tests

Mersey Care’s Phlebotomy Service in Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley is making a change to how patients book their blood tests online. From July 2026 a patients NHS number will become a mandatory field. This was discussed with commissioners.

If patients do not provide their NHS number when visiting www.merseycare.nhs.uk/ BloodTests, they will be unable to book a blood test.

If patients are unsure of their NHS number, they can simply retrieve it from www.nhs.uk/ find-nhs-number. When booking blood tests online, patients will be directed to this site if they don’t have it to hand.
